PIREPs (Pilot Reports) for Tombstone Muni (P29) in Tombstone, AZ:

On Wednesday, August 18, 2004 Corbin had this to say about P29...

Thanks to a federal grant and ADOT funds provided from aviation fuel taxes, the Tombstone Airport runway was repaved over the weekend. The $125,000 project should attract more pilots to land on the 4,500 foot runway. Many pilots who wanted to bring their aircraft to Tombstone have previously refused to land because of the poor condition of the runway. Attracting more pilots should also bring an increase in tourism to Tombstone, benefitting local businesses. Sonrise Sport Aviation, the lessees of the Tombstone Airport would like to extend appreciation to the City of Tombstone, especially Mayor Dusty Escapule and Department of Public Works Director Robert Reames for their help in getting the airport runway paved. The Mayor, Reames, and Tess Adams have been working with FAA/ADOT for the past two years to make this possible. The first person to take off and land on the new runway was Tess Adams. She said it was a little confusing because she was accustomed to rotating on take off at the third pothole, where the large clump of weeds was jutting through the pavement and now she doesn't have that reference point and has to rely on her instruments. What a change!
